Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler

4.0

Adelaide Williams is a hot mess, and that's being generous. The way in which this woman fills up and nearly bursts with emotion for any and everything is overwhelmingly exhausting. Her character is painted as light, bubbly, generous, kind, quirky, ridiculous (in a fun way), and terribly traumatized.

I found quite a bit of this experience of Adelaide's to be very far-fetched. She was constantly being flung from one tragic experience to another with little to no breathing room in between. It often had become to be too much. All the tragedy felt very thrown together on the author's part.

That said, I think this book is beautifully written and earnest. I am glad I read it even if I feel like I need my soul cleaned in the aftermath.

I will caution that this book deals with heavy topics such as abusive relationships, non-consensual sɘx, death, miscarriage, and suicidal ideation and attempts. Read at your own risk.
