Dear Dolly: On Love, Life and Friendship, Collected wisdom from her Sunday Times Style Column by Dolly Alderton

emotional reflective fast-paced

3.0

I was interested in this because I've enjoyed Dolly's other books but I knew it wasn't really going to be my kind of book because I'm not the most introspective person and never read self help. I ended up skim-reading it and stopping and reading more closely when I got to bits which interested me. I also couldn't help but compare it to Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed which I read a few months ago. What I enjoyed most about that was that Strayed includes stories from her own life in her answers but in her introduction Dolly specifically mentions that she wanted to put less of herself into her writing, which is totally valid and understandable but meant a lot of the advice was quite generic. It was worth the read for the bits I enjoyed but I'm glad I got it out of the library instead of buying it.
