Ajin: Demi-Human, Vol. 1 by Gamon Sakurai

5.0

When I rate a manga I've read, I only rate the first volume though I've read the entire thing. It's a pain to search for box sets or the like.

Brilliant manga.

Sato is one of my favorite villains in all of fiction. His relentless drive that causes nations to shift that can turn -- or stop altogether -- on a dime is so interesting, I'm always looking forward to what he concocts next. The protagonist, Kei, is the perfect foil to Sato in every way. One of my favorite scenes is when Kei loses his memory during the final scramble to defeat Sato, quickly rationalizes his situation and continues the chase. Sato's reaction to that was exactly what I was hoping for in a confrontation between the two, however anticlimactic Sato's capture might have been.

I truly hope they decide to do a sequel set in the future, though I can understand leaving it here might be for the best. Phenomenal.
