The Assassin's Curse by Lindsay Buroker

4.0

A short story in the Emperor's Edge world, with only Sicarius and Amaranthe as characters. Their interaction and emotional connection is deepening, and Amaranthe's ability to empathize with the enemies she encounters reminds me of Lois McMaster Bujold's book *Ethan of Athos*. Ethan, like Amaranthe, can make the imaginative leap to understand the point of view of someone from truly different backgrounds, to understand their motivations and work with them to achieve his goals. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
