Evernight by Ross MacKenzie

2.0

I don't know how to describe this book other than poorly written. the ending was rushed and the characters didn't have much depth to them.

and the amount of overused fantasy tropes in this book was unbarrable. it was like the author searched up every trope that comes up in evry fantasy book ever and throw it all into one.

dying grandma who someone knows everything about magic? check.
main character has dead parents and all they ever want is to fit in? check.
when the main character learns about their history/back story they suddenly have this super strong connection with their dead parent and that helps them overcome their final hurdle in defeating the big bad? check.
a witch who is thousands of years old and steals the youth of beautiful young women? check.

I also wanted them to just give double eight a name, jeez. poor kid.
my biggest pet peeve about this book, though, is Lara saying that she had it worse than a young boy that was born into slavery and forced to work his whole life?? like, girl, stop talking.

it also bothered me that every time someone was busy dying, someone in the next chapter just happened to have done soemthing at the exact right time for their actions to save the dying person. don't be scared of killing characters!!

but yeah, it was just not a good book.
