The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
2.0
Maybe a 2.5? Because I'm trying to be more critical with my reviews this year. This book was a quick read but I didn't really feel the romance and nothing felt organic.
My favorite thing about this book was that the main character is African-american. And it only slightly surprises me that I don't think I've read a cute-fun-women's-romance in which the main character is African American??? If I have, I can't remember.
What constantly bothered me throughout the novel was that the main character, Alexa, constantly compared her appearance, her body + hair, to that of the other minor women characters who were white, blonde, tall and skinny. The problem I had wasn't that she compared herself to them, it was that no one, not even her love interest told her, HEY YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, YOU ARE NOT LESSER THAN THEM.
