A heartbreaking telling of a girl's derealization in the face of trauma turns into... something else. This book is brutal, honest, and absolutely staggering. Murata explores the spectrum of society's most arbitrary rituals to its most fundamental taboos, doing so while forcing an incomparable experience upon the reader.

I have never read anything like this before. I'm not sure if I ever want to again. I loved every word of it.
