The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

4.0

Actually, I'm so lucky can read this. I received an ARC after select from 3 choices that offered to me, and i choose this instead, cause I'm so intriguing with the cover (its spooooo...ky :D) and the blurb sounds, this book has an unusual theme. Yeah, I'm kinda tired with so many Vampire, Werewolf and Fallen Angel Theme

I can say, this book is good. I'm not kind into Young Adult Novel, and this is the first YA after I read Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer (that put me into coma, after read Breaking Dawn, because Stephanie's write style just not for me, though)

The story is about Malcolm Doyle, or Mackie, a 16 years old teenager, that cant stand to iron (he can't kiss the girl that he like, because she pierced her tongue) and consecrated ground (he can't enter church even though his father is priest). He knows that he's not normal, that he's not the "real" Mackie, just a replacement, but still his family love him and his friend Roswell never though about it. Things got complicated, when his friend, Tate, know that her dead sister is not her sister, and she confrontated Mackie, thinks that maybe he know what happen with her real sister. Then,Mackie know who he is, a changeling (or something like that, because there are no explanation what creature he is, just he and his kind is different). He go to underground, and find two different faction there, House of Mayhem, with The Morrigan as their leader and House of Misery, that lead by The Lady.
Mackie find that Tate's sister is not dead yet, and he want to help her, even though his action can change his city, Gentry, forever

This book has unique theme, about the undead worlds, some myth in here (The Morrigan, the owner of House of Mayhem, the place Mackie, the hero come from, is she a Celtic warrior goddess?), blood sacrifice, friendship, and Oh, I Love this, family theme :). Mackie's family know he's not normal and not one of them, but they still love him. His sister, Emma help him when he got sick. And I enjoy Mackie's relationship with Tate, I hope maybe Miss Brenna can explore more about their feeling of each other, and things that make me interested again, this book is telling from Mackie's POV, while there are so many YA Novel told from heroine's POV.

If you try to read a YA novel with an unique and unusual story. This is for you
