I've been a little hit-and-miss with CS Lewis. The Screwtape Letters was great, but the Abolition of Man felt confusing. Thankfully this is much more like the former. I'll first state simply that I agree with not everything but nearly everything presented here, which of course makes me like it more. They weren't necessarily new ideas or ideas I was completely unfamiliar with. But it did present those ideas to me in a new way that helped me to grapple with them. When Lewis is presenting his points in a purely logical/philosophical manner, it just feels smart. It makes sense to my silly little brain. Of course, things always sound smarter when you don't hear the counterarguments. But still, I think this helped me to recontextualize some of my beliefs and in so doing has succeeded in its purpose.
