When I started reading White Horse Black Nights by Evie Marceau I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. What a great and mesmering novel! I was totally captivated from the very first page. I had no expectations, other than that I would love to read it, but I was blown away by this fantastic slow burn enemies to lovers story.

Sabine has been sold into marriage and now has to go to her husband on terms he designed, with a very grumpy bodyguard to escort her. She is such a wonderful character, I loved her from the start. She is fierce, resourceful, but has a lot of anger in her, because she has no say in what is happening, and her anger was refreshing. Wolf Bowborn, her guard, she dislikes and that is mutual. But he also has no choice in what’s going on. He is not a good guy, loves violence, and despite that he is a wonderful character. As they travel, they get more respect and feelings for eachother. Both have unusual magic, which I loved, and that was so well done. The tension, the slow build romance and chemistry between them is amazing.

The writing style is fantastic, fast paced and as the story is told by Sabine and by Wolf, we get to know more about them and that also makes for great reading. I could not stop reading or thinking about the story. And it is not just a kind of travel story, there is also something going on with Fae who once ruled the world and who went to sleep a thousand years ago, but now things are not well along the sealed off border. The worldbuilding and magic system is great. Near the end there is this unsuspected twist in the story, which makes sense why Rian, the high lord who is a also a bit mysterious and devious, wanted Sabine. And the cliffhanger makes me want to read the next book right now, because I want to know what will happen between Sabine and Wolf.

If you want to read a great romantic fantasy enemies to lovers story, with a great plot and characters who just leap off the pages, a fast paced writing style, slow burn romance, and with a Lady Godiva and Snow White And The Huntsman vibe, just read this book. I highly recommend it. I just loved it, I read it in just a few days and can’t wait for the sequel!
