Lessons in Sin by Pam Godwin
3.0
a bit of a bloody disappointment
okay so first I want to start this review by saying this is the first priest romance I've read and thus may be more lenient to it those aspects, this is not the first romance tagged BDSM I've read though so you're about to hear me complain A LOT.
my girl pam wrote [b:Dark Notes|28435457|Dark Notes|Pam Godwin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1456118781l/28435457._SY75_.jpg|48550982] aka my favorite student-teacher romance of all time and with it raised herself to basically god status in my eyes. so when I read the blurb for this: priests? age gaps? bdsm? repressed sexuality in the context of organized religion and centuries of oppression based on gender? hells yeah dude let's do this!
so here's what I liked:
- age gap obviously. we love to see it.
- the smut in the first 150 pages (we will get to this)
- the whole priest thing (I'm seriously going to explore a little into this trope now)
what I didn't like:
- yes, the way middle-aged authors write teenage girls is cringy that's fair but I don't actually care about that, what I do care about is the fact that these authors should be able to write dirty talk that doesn't make ME feel awkward
- the smut past 150
- insta attraction (seriously give them a moment to breathe will you)
- the entire chapters of the H where he just manically tries to convince us he needs her (I began skimming at that point)
to end I want to focus on what I didn't like in terms of smut because that's new to me, usually, I take the smut as just another part of the book and don't give it a second thought but here it is pissed me off.
we start off with this objectively great erotic scenario, being somewhat of a sexually interested female locked up in a CATHOLIC boarding school (we all know the associations there, or am I just fucked up?) with a hot priest who also happens to be a sexual sadist.
all in all, that's fun as fuck.
dark notes handled similar themes with one big distinction she didn't need to save him.
god, how i hate this post 50 shades save him from his darkness with your magical pussy bullshit.
so yeah that's where the story fell flat for me.
it was still a fun read though so 3 stars .
