Pippa by Malynda Schlegel

3.0

The cover had me anticipating something completely different than what I actually got. I wasn't necessarily disappointed, but I just don't really know what I was expecting I guess. I did enjoy the writing in this novel, the author had a very eerie feel to it. But the lack of plot was what got me the most.

In Pippa, there was WAY too much internal dialogue happening. Way too much telling and thought processing by the main character. Actually, way too much dialogue in general. It covered up the entire book and with that happening there was not a true plot or direction to the story. It felt like I was actually reading a bunch of diary entries rather than an actual story. It also really covers up the secondary characters when this happens. I didn't feel any type of connection towards them because I was trapped in the dialogue of Pippa and what she saw, rather than what she felt.

I really appreciated the type of setting and environment the author was working towards. The mentality of a girl who was forced to grow up way too quick, her surroundings and the things that occur to her-- I really felt like it could have went in a really good direction. But the internal dialogue was so overpowering and overwhelming that it missed the "twisty-plot" that I was ultimately anticipating.
