This started off strong, and I was absorbed for a lot of the read, but the pacing and style were inconsistent and the character development was lacking, leading to a second half that didn't pull off what it was trying to do. I feel like the book lost it's sense of purpose halfway through and was grasping to try and be impactful and meaningful.
Spoiler
I didn't find Sadie and Marx's relationship convincing, which is part of what made the second half not work for meGraphic: Gun violence, Suicide, Emotional abuse, and Physical abuse
Moderate: Racism and Sexual assault
Minor: Racial slurs
