Educated by Tara Westover

5.0

As a victim (yes victim, not survivor, I'm not out of the woods yet) of so called "unschooling", I understand the effects a lack of an education has on one's life in all of it's facets. I did not have an all too similar experience to Tara. I LIVED on TV and Video Games, a lot of her discoveries came earlier to me because of unmonitored internet usage from the ripe young age of 11. Her parents and family were abusive in ways mine are not, thankfully. But some sections of this book mirrored my life so closely at times I could've written them. Stories like mine and like Tara's are not often told, much less without tragic death or one in obscurity, with the subject existing the same way they did at 15 as they do at 35. But Tara's story doesn't end that way. She molded herself into the woman she wanted and deserved to be. Tara's story is an inspiring one. One that left me with a hopeful heart and glassy eyes. Like her, I too will attempt to reclaim my life and my education. I thank her for sharing this.
