Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery

4.0

I really did love this installment in the Anne of Green Gables series, and continue to marvel at how I could not have fallen for these books when I first encountered them decades ago. But now that I’ve fallen under their spell it makes me cranky to keep meeting new (charming) characters in each book, and barely getting a glimpse of the former beloved ones. Anne herself is a bit too traditionally feminine in this book — the ideal wife and prospective mother. And as long as I’m complaining, there is some downright mawkishness at times. Not to mention a completely unbelievable medical miracle as a central plot device. So one star off But I’m still entranced and eager to read the next book. These books cast an inimitable enchantment.
