Moderate: Terminal illness and Death of parent
Content warning elaboration (Moderate "Death of parent" & "Terminal illness" - Not a huge spoiler, information from the first few pages, spoilering regardless): The protagonist's mother is revealed to have an illness likely to kill her, which she dies to very early on in the book. This especially comes back to relevance with a twist in the 3rd act, and is quite inescapable in the overall story. A large theme overall is how you remember lost loved ones, and the relative permanence of memory in contrast with the fragility of life
