Georgia O'Keeffe and New Mexico: A Sense of Place by Lesley Poling-Kempes, Barbara Buhler Lynes, Frederick W. Turner

4.0

I rarely read the words in art books — I generally use them as image reference/inspiration. But I read this one. Georgia O’Keefe is one of my favorite artists and I find her life inspiring. The essays in this collection gave new insight into how she might have worked to make sense of the landscapes she drew inspiration from. Essays are accompanied by photographs of the sites she painted from so you can see how (as the author of several essays argues) she developed her own forms of abstraction from the land.
I did not care for the last essay and so didn’t finish that but — found the author’s tone and speculation very annoying.
