I never anticipated loving this book to such an extent. After reading the first one, my expectations were surpassed by this second book. I never imagined I could come to love Laurent so profoundly. His personal development and the trust he was able to give to Damen were incredibly satisfying to witness. The tension between the two of them was immaculate. This is by far one of the finest, if not the best, slow burns I've ever read. The world, the narratives, the conflicts, the political intrigue and the characters captivated me, and I wouldn't change a single thing about this book. My favorite from the trilogy, that’s for sure! However, I'm deeply apprehensive about diving into the next one.
