Oh wow. Murakami packs an emotional punch. The three year story of Watanabe feels like a lifetime of yearning, love, and loss. It is a masterful journey into the heart of a university boy, so ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. One major criticism is how sexual escapades that hinge on getting a girl too drunk to say no are convenient plot points in the protagonists character development
