Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body by Roxane Gay

emotional hopeful informative reflective fast-paced

4.0

I now see why people say Roxane Gay is such a great writer. Honestly I should've read this book first, because I wasn't super impressed by the meandering Bad Feminist. In this shorter memoir format, however, she shines.

I do hope that since the writing of this book, she's engaged a little deeper with fat politics, because it seemed like her understanding/knowledge was very surface level and mostly garnered from personal experience. I was bothered by the way she referred to BMI as if it means anything, and expected her to call out that it's a racist, unscientific unit of "measurement," but she didn't.
