purpose gives meaning to life
it’s such a surprise reading this story after having grown up with the film adaptation of Sin City. This is definitely my favorite segment in the film, and it works so well as a comic, possibly even better than as a film. It’s crazy how much of this is adapted into the film. It’s almost like a 1:1 recreation of this story lol
i really enjoyed the scene where Marv is assessing everything he’s brought along on his lil’ mission. i also thoroughly enjoyed confession scene too and i think it worked better in the comic than it did in the film as well. the shot where Marv is standing in front of a statue of Roarke looked so cool in both iterations, that may be my favorite panel in this comic.
the material shown here is graphic and edgy. the violence is beyond over the top and the way they talk about it is insane. the protagonist doesn’t seem like a sex pest or anything, which is awesome. i love how respectful he is towards women, this whole comic is about avenging a girl he barely knew at all lol
yeah, this was a kick-a** comic and i’m really excited to read the other Sin City comic books!!
Frank Miller is a genius. I’ve only read Old Man Logan, but i’m familiar with the film adaptations of the Dark Knight Returns pt. i and ii. His art is stellar, and i love how beefy and blocky he draws men. i think the monochromatic color scheme and overall minimalistic style adds a lot to the overall aesthetic of the book. Many of the iconic shots wouldn’t carry the same weight if it wasn’t in this minimalist style, especially the shot of Marv leaving Basin City or like when he stares at that Roarke statue, like i mentioned before
