The Governess Game by Tessa Dare

5.0

I received a free copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Historical romances have always been my go-to read when I need a comfort blanket, and today "The Governess Game" did not let me down. It was like sitting down with a box of my favourite chocolates and just indulging. I was soon lost to the world, completely living in Alexandra and Chase's world. I laughed, I cried, I felt, I experienced their emotions. I am a big fan of Tessa Dare, she has an incredible ability to craft stories that are relatable, but tongue in cheek. Her characters have depth and little idiosyncrasies that make them stand out, but she also knows when to change the tone and introduce some pathos.

The story revolves around Alexandra and Chase who first meet when he bumps into her in a bookshop. Some months later they meet again when he mistakes her for a Governess applying to teach his wards. The developing relationship between them, and the two small girls Alexandra is employed to teach forms the basis of a light-hearted, engaging read.
