Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison

4.0

A toxin carried by tomatoes decimates the human population--and reveals the paranormal kinds living among them. Tjis causes society to split--humans and Inderlander. Rachel Morgan is a witch working for Inderland Security, catching those who misuse their magic. But she decides to go out on her own. Not a problem until Ivy, her coworker, decides to go with her. Ivy can't be touched, so Rachel gets a death warrant instead. To pay it off, Rachel decides to bag the most ellusive criminal around--Trent Kalamack. No one even knows if he is human or not. Getting dirt on him gets Rachel in all sorts of trouble. She gets stuck in the form of a mink and entered into a rat fight; she is attacked by a demon. But she does manage to get her contract paid off and enough dirt on Trent to make him leave her alone. For now.

Entertaining and fun. A good read.
