Beautiful writing. It has a rather detached style of narration, which makes sense as the protagonist is the narrator, looking back on his life. I enjoyed it.
Honestly, I read the book because it was all over the internet with people praising how good the book was and how it broke them. Maybe it's just wrong place, wrong time, but yes, Patroclus's death was sad, but it wasn't as heartbreaking as everyone makes it out to be. Maybe it's just the wrong mindset. Maybe I will change my mind if I reread it again one day.
Graphic: Violence and War
Minor: Rape and Slavery
