I've been waiting to read this one for a while since suicide's affected my family. It was a heavy, emotional read for sure, but I thought Summers handled it in a thoughtful, accurate way - at least in my experience. I appreciated that at the end Eddie wasn't suddenly okay and past her dad's death, but rather has started to accept it and realized that she won't likely ever know why. I also appreciated the way Summers explored how other characters were grieving and processing, too, and how there wasn't one right way to grieve. A lot of other books/movies/shows I've read/seen that deal with this topic tend to focus on how someone's death by suicide teaches other characters to value life more or some other lesson. I appreciated that this book avoided that pitfall and instead focused on the grief the people still living felt and the search for answers that often follows when a loved one dies by suicide.

The one part that creeped me out was the age difference in Culler and Eddie's relationship and how he knew it was wrong and still went for it anyway.
Also, leaving her behind in a motel room 14 hours away from home was such an asshole move, but it seemed to fit with how pretentious he was
