True West: Sam Shepard's Life, Work, and Times by Robert Greenfield

informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

Thank you Random House for the free book: an aptly no-nonsense biography that argues Shepard used his work to understand himself, so if you want to know what made him tick, see the plays. The biographer's job, as Greenfield pursues it, is a faithful and readable accounting of the path the artist followed through our cultural geography. Shepard emerges as the cipher everyone wanted to solve, or at least try to — results varied.
