The poetry style is very modern, but it doesn’t try too hard to take itself seriously, which lightens the book a lot — so if you’re looking for poetry that makes you sit and think and want to unpack each line, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for poetry that aims to tell a story before it aims to be decorative with its language, this is it. I think it’s a relatable read for modern audiences, and there are moments that really sink in. At moments the storyteller doesn’t acknowledge the privileges they have have to be telling the story (for instance, their constant use of Paris as a motif) but I guess it’s  a dreamer’s book rather than a book that looks to exclude anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it and ate it up in one sitting.
