Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent
5.0
When a book starts with our FMC putting her dead father's body out with the bin, I am immediately hooked.
I will list trigger warnings at the bottom of my review, but for me I was so glad I went into this book knowing basically nothing.
Without her father, Sally is even more alone and reclusive than she was before. Sally doesn't venture too far, has a set routine and is quite ok with how life is going thank you very much. When her actions of putting her father out with the rubbish captures the attention of the media, Sally's life is going to change and she will learn more about herself than ever before.
What happens in this book was such a shock to me, it was horrifying, heartbreaking and difficult to read - yet I literally could not put it down. My every spare thought was consumed by this book and I was so invested from the word go.
I definitely need to read more from Liz Nugent because the unique storyline and writing style really made this a memorable read.
The only frustration I have is that I really, really disliked how this book ended. I've never felt so annoyed at the ending of a book before!
Trigger warnings, some of which may be considered spoilers:
- Kidnap of a minor
- Rape of a minor
- Emotional, physical, sexual abuse
- PTSD
