every time someone asked me how this book was, i always told them that it was the most confusing read ever. not because the book was confusing, but because of my conflicting feelings while reading it. i ate this book up and couldn’t put it down. anytime i picked it up, my eyes were glued to it. i found the premise to be so interesting, and i couldn’t wait for the next chapter to know more. however, i think this book could’ve been a 5 star read if it was written by a different author. i really did not care for this author’s writing style and found it to sometimes be wattpad-y. the number one rule of writing is “show, don’t tell”, and i feel like there was a lot of telling rather than showing. i wished she was more descriptive and painted a picture of the scene rather than telling me outright what the characters felt and thought. almost every chapter started with “i’m” followed by whatever the character was doing in that moment. it just felt a little cheap sometimes. also the excessive use of questions drove me NUTS. it felt like every other page was covered in, “why would she say that? does she know love me? does she even care? should i just move on?”. used sparingly that’s fine but it was sooooo much. although the writing style wasn’t my fav, i still tore through this book and definitely recommend :))
