Trees, Vol. 1: In Shadow by Warren Ellis

4.0

Intriguing premise, slow burning plot, random craziness from Warren Ellis. Giant alien towers slam into the earth, and 10 years later no one on Earth really knows what's going on with them. It's unclear if the aliens even recognize humanity as sentient or alive at all. Follows several storylines in the shadows of the "trees", from the science team looking into the black flowers one of the objects is starting to grow, the young woman looking to control the hidden levers of her small town or the young chinese boy who is looking for community in an artistic enclave that has sprung up in the shadow of another tree. It all goes to shit of course.

I have no idea where the long-term story is going, but at this point I'm on board for the ride.
