Death of a Snob by M.C. Beaton
When health farm owner Jane Wetherby is frightened by an astrologer's prediction of her imminent demise, she offers Police Constable Hamish Wetherby free room in exchange for his protection. Then the prediction proves accurate about the crime, and Wetherby must enliven his distinctively sleepy style of policing to solve the death of a snob.
So far I think that this has been my favourite in the series - Hamish is miserable as his Christmas plans have been changed at short notice and finds himself solving a murder whilst on holiday. A light-hearted, cosy murder mystery and whilst this book is set at Christmas it can be read at any time of year. These are so easy to read as the plot isn't too complicated but gripping enough to keep me going back for more.
Rating 4/5
