Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson

challenging informative reflective medium-paced

This was such a heart breaking and mind opening read. Definitely a life changing read. I encourage anyone to read this. It so perfectly distilles the socio, racial, political dynamics of the united states in a way that I've never seen before. It is an incredibly informative read while also being deeply emotional and unflinching about the subject matter at hand. My one critique is that I would have liked a bit more of the history surrounding the caste system in India because although the book looks at America, Germany and India's caste system, India is the least interesting one content wise in the book because it lacks a deeper history. I get that it's literally a millenia old but some more context would have been nice. At the end of the day while this book looks at the past it is so about today and the issues both in america and I would argue any society where whiteness is valued more so than anything else.
