I picked this up expecting a look at pre-Christian celebrations in England, but discovered that it's pretty much impossible to separate Paganism from Christianity, at least in England. The book was a fascinating look at Anglo-Saxon poetry, and the very early merging of Paganism and Christianity, and I learned a lot and came away with an extensive further reading list.
I would definitely recommend it to Pagans interested in learning about the actual history of the yearly celebrations, without religious speculation and wish fulfilment getting in the way.
