Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians was American Psycho minus the violence (for the most part). Obviously the concept was a little different, but the description of designer clothes and emphasis placed on what everyone was wearing and doing reminded me of the classic horror novel. That being said, I loved the immersive nature of this story. I loved getting to experience the Chinese and Singaporean culture through both the eyes of natives and someone outside of the culture. If you’re a fan of intricate (though seemingly superficial) family issues, I would definitely recommend this book.
