Hellboy, Vol. 12: The Storm and the Fury by Mike Mignola
4.0
This trade pays off the build up of Darkness Calls and The Wild Hunt. This is the last real Hellboy book, aside from Hellboy in Hell, so as you could guess, spoilers below:
I have to say I’m a little disappointed in the ending. It may be that I’ve never really cared for Arthurian Legend, but that stuff still feels a little more heavy handed than all of the other mythology getting tangled up here. I think I would have preferred it if the big bad was Hecate instead of a new queen of witches. It would have tied back to the beginning a little more.
I also wish Mignola could have returned. I know he does for Hellboy in Hell, and Duncan Fegredo does a stellar job, but it still feels a little bad to not have him back for the climax. Though it lasts for several pages, the final battle still felt a little rushed and anticlimactic.
Another shout out to Dave Stewart, who not enough praise and credit can be given.
