"Your good-luck curse. I know how to get rid of it. You should marry into a family with very, very bad luck. A family with expensive problems. And then you won't have to be embarrassed about having so much money, because it will flow out nearly as fast as it comes in.

"So you believe in fate now?"
"And luck - because of you."

A bit whimsical, at times ridiculous, but damn if this wasn't a fun midnight ride that kept me hooked.

Love Cam. Love Amelia. They're both really intelligent. Love the Hathaways. Love that it's not your typical stuffy upper-crust Regency romance. Love that the Westcliffs and St. Vincents make an appearance.

Love the magic, mystery, a dash of Gothic adventure and haunting. It's like a blend of fantasy lore and romance which is right up my alley.

And also the more serious themes of navigating your identity and place in the world, and life after grief. I know people love Leo's character growth so I am looking forward to that.

"You grieve too much. You've forced her to come back to you. You have to let her go. Not for your sake, but hers."

There were some moments I was not on board with, for example, Leo saying to Amelia if you're not sure you were compromised then you weren't. THE FUCK. I hate these problematic notions that still somehow have to be part of historical romance?? And all the possessive stuff too. Eye roll. Alas, that's standard for HR. I don't like that Cam tricked Amelia into betrothal, or that Amelia didn't mention that Frost kissed her. I especially don't like that Cam is always talked about in "exotic" fetishistic terms from Kleypas.
