The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

5.0

one of my favourite books ive ever read. i didn’t really know anything about the book before i started reading it but i absolutely loved this story !

i really like the way the book is set up, monique is the main character even though the story isn’t about her. it makes you feel as though you are monique and are the one interviewing and getting to know evelyn. it makes the ending of the book so much more personal and heartbreaking.

i also loved that throughout the book you’re reminded that you’re waiting to find out why evelyn chose monique to write her biography and that when you do find out, there is a legitimate reason why evelyn waited until she finished her story and not just so the author could keep suspense in the book.

even though you’re waiting to find out evelyns reasons, i found that just evelyns story alone was enough to motivate you to keep reading. it was such an interesting story that felt as though it could be realistic. maybe not so much the fame and fortune but definitely the issues she faced with her sexuality, how women are shamed for expressing their sexuality, abusive relationships and the realistic portrayal of how some woman’s thought processes are through them, and so many other different issues that are sometimes romanticised or very inaccurately portrayed in most books and movies.

i felt moniques pain and confusion at the end. evelyn was not a good person but the attachment and sorrow i felt for her after hearing her story and how much pain she suffered throughout her life made me want to feel empathy for her instead of anger

i couldn’t recommend this book enough, i absolutely loved it & i think everyone should read this artwork. MWAH chefs kiss
