The Bug Girl: Maria Merian's Scientific Vision by Sarah Glenn Marsh

4.0

Born in 1647, at a time when people thought anyone interested in bugs was evil and supposedly women could only paint with watercolors not oil (I can't find any sources for this info, so it may not be true), Maria studied and painted bugs with a scientist's eye. She eventually even travelled to Suriname (from Germany) to study & even discover more bugs and creatures. I'd never heard of her before and now I want to look at all her bug art.
