A Dutiful Son: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Kelly Miller

5.0

I’m so excited every time I see Kelly Miller has a new Pride and Prejudice Variation out! I love the way she writes her Austenesque romances and brings these beloved characters to life with her own unique twists and stories in the world we all know and love. In A DUTIFUL SON, Darcy’s father is still alive, although he has a serious health condition. As such, he has requested Darcy to marry imminently and while allowing the friendship between Elizabeth Bennett and Georgiana (which was one of my favorite parts of the book), he has made it clear Georgiana must not associate with any of her other family members and that Elizabeth is not a suitable match for Darcy. Miller writes her slow burn romances so well. I loved the sweet torture of Darcy and Elizabeth realizing their growing feelings for one another through horse riding adventures and dances, and Elizabeth’s visits with Georgiana, while being unable to pursue anything. Lydia was a pill as always. I also enjoy the way that characters who sometimes are irredeemable in the book get a more redeemable treatment in Miller’s variations and that was true here as well! This was a lovely read and I can’t wait for her next one! 5/5 stars.
