Blah. It took a long time to get into, gave the main plot point away early in the game and then meandered its way to the end. The different speeds of the book meant it was a real struggle to continue.

Also, to be honest, the modern day section of the book could have been left out and it would have been a better read. Usually the modern day/history viewpoints fold in on each other with a twist revealed at the end of the book... this wasn’t like that at all. It wasn’t so intertwined and the modern day reactions to the past wasn’t relatable.

Also, how disrespectful and pretentious of a daughter to be digging things up she knows for sure her family would rather not discuss? Additionally, a relationship between cousins is still incestuous, and makes a terrible plot point.

I did enjoy the history sections about sampaka. That whole section from when Killian arrived was an easy interesting read. It’s a shame that the modern portions took away from that.

Wouldn’t read again. Wouldn’t recommend it.
