Behind the Scenes by Karelia Stetz-Waters

4.0

Business consultant Rose Josten has a good life between her job, sisters and a secret hobby creating mindfulness videos. While preparing to become partner at work Rose chooses to take on a pro-bono project with former filmmaker Ash Stewart who was blacklisted in the industry because of an ex. As the two begin to work together it's only time until the attraction follows.

I appreciated how patient the characters were with each other and it was refreshing to see a healthy romance depicted in Behind The Scenes. Rose and Ash are definitely soulmates. Although the story as whole is light-hearted there were definitely some darker, more serious topics introduced. The disability rep, which focused on sexual dysfunction due to trauma was raw, but handled beautifully. It also explores aerophobia.

Karelia Stetz-Waters wrote main characters who are real and flawed while not having them come across too annoying, whiny or preachy. Despite having baggage they choose to help lift one another up. Together, they can feel whole. Their relationship felt incredibly genuine. It was heartwarming to see them want the best for each other and provided support without judgment. In addition, Rose's sisters were incredible and wonderful comedic relief.

Personally, I didn't care for the ASMR subplot, but to each their own. I definitely hated Victoria too, as I'm sure the author hoped the reader would, so well done.

I recommend Behind The Scenes to anyone who wants to read a cute queer romance featuring two lesbians (and pugs) with lots of focus on healing.
