Drama by Raina Telgemeier

4.0

I enjoy Telgemeier’s cartoon-style drawings; they make me happy just looking at them. The characters’ faces are super-expressive and the colors are bright. I like that the story features some gay characters but the book’s about more than just homosexuality. This makes it feel like being gay is just a part of life and not a person’s defining characteristic. The only thing I wasn’t thrilled with was the ending. I admire the author for going against the norm by not having a perfect conclusion like many teen books do, but it sort of felt wrong and not fitting with earlier parts of the book (sorry for being vague, but I don’t want to spoil anything). Still, I think this is a really fun, cute graphic novel, and I will definitely recommend it to patrons and friends.
