I read this one immediately after finishing the first and that's probably your best bet in reading this series, as this book picks up literally the following day! It seems the adventure's never over for our favourite circus crew.

Some of the questions left unanswered in the last book are covered here, though there's obviously much more trouble brewing that's barely touched here. This group just can't have a day off!
There's a lot of pain and invasive surgery in this one, nothing too gruesome in description but it certainly feels like the characters suffer a lot more in this book than they have thus far.

One slight issue I had - one of the characters has injured their hands and every time they touch something they're in pain. Yet they constantly use crutches. Maybe these crutches are some sort of futuristic no-hold invention like many of the other cool tech stuff in this series but this is never discussed.

Though we perhaps didn't spend as much time with the circus this time, I really liked the focus on Dale and Aurore. I enjoyed their stories much more so it was great to have their backgrounds developed here, as well as some of the more minor characters getting a chance to shine.

Like in the previous books, some parts could've done with more description, and there was still an unnecessary focus on women's bodies though this was thankfully constrained in comparison. Overall, I liked this addition to the circus extravaganza and it sounds like their story has a long way to go.
