I enjoyed it a lot more than I originally thought I would - simply because I’m more familiar with Dickens’ works like Oliver Twist or Great Expectations. Initially thinking it would be boring, I was pleasantly surprised as the story was not only historically fascinating to learn about real events and the political aspect of the situation but the characters too seemed as well-realized and fleshed-out as they could be in a classic novel. The theme of oppression and its repeating cycle - questions of who is the victim and who is just - are so relevant even to this day so it was really cool to see it explored here and the ironic lack of awareness displayed by the antagonists of the novel.
