I'm so happy for the trans girls who get to grow up with this kind of Y/A fiction, reading Dreadnought in my early 20s was still enjoyable but the whole time I was thinking about how much I would have loved it as a teenager. I don't normally vibe with superhero fiction but this had a unique enough spin to hold my attention, I especially liked how the writer doesn't shy away from the emotional struggle Danny deals with in addition to the happier parts of the story. There was some whiplash, when in one chapter you'd read about Danny's father being seriously transphobic followed immediately by a heroic scene where she saves a plane from crashing, along with some other parts in that vein, but overall it worked. Will definitely be checking out the sequel some time.
