Tokyo Tarareba Girls Returns, by Akiko Higashimura

4.0

Not going to lie to you. I pirated this. (What an awful library associate I am. I’m sorry.)

And… I feel conflicted? I like the open-ended conclusion better than the orignal ending to the manga, but I do think it undermines some of Rinko’s final decisions and resolutions. It just feels like we’re back at square one, after nine volumes of watching her grow.

But I did think the exes showing up to the wedding was cute, even if it was incredibly cringe. Cringe-cute? I don’t know. And I do sort of like Key better now, knowing that he didn’t terrorize Rinko into having some sort of toxic causal relationship. I feel like if they ever do reconnect, their relationship would be pretty healthy. Well, as healthy as it could be with such a snot-nosed asshole. And Lord strike me down for being a hypocrite, but I think Key is actually sort of cute with the dark hair. I don’t like blondes. Sue me. I’m terrible.

Also, Mami getting married and her husband being an absolute malewife for her is adorable. Love her so much.

So, I mean, yeah. I’m still not fully satisfied but I feel a little better putting this series to rest knowing that happier endings are on the horizon and that the girls aren’t miserable.
