A Sorrow Beyond Dreams by Peter Handke

4.0

I picked this up in a bookshop because I was drawn to the cover. I ended up sitting down and reading the entire book in one sitting at the bookshop and leaving. At first I didn't enjoy it that much, but the more it went on the more it moved me and pulled at my heartstrings. This book was heartbreaking, and made me feel a lot of things that I can't quite put into words and I think its always a good thing if a book can do that. Such a beautiful but absolutely devastating memoir of a woman's experience of trauma and depression. I think it gave me an insight into the war and the effect of war / post war environment on women and how much has changed for women over the past hundred years.
