The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron

challenging informative reflective slow-paced

I would have preferred to read this book cover-to-cover rather than as a 12 week course. The author assures the reader that the course is for everyone, but as a parent without the privilege of time, I found many of the weekly tasks impossible. Come to find that 20 years after this book was written, Julia Cameron did in fact write a different course for parents. I also struggled with so many tasks being to day dream about your future while also preaching to take things as they come and to give up control. I also feel that the 30 years of separation between the publishing of this book and today is far too great. During my 12 weeks with The Artist's Way, I did not create a single piece of art. I did however start dieting (how very indicative of the 90s) and stop playing with my children (also very 90s). The ideas of the book are solid, but the practice is outdated.
