6 stars. I wasn’t going to pick this up, the mixed reviews and hype haven’t paid off in the past, but it sure did with this book. Well paced and written exquisitely, a phenomenal fantasy / magical realism story with historical fiction aspects, romance, and maybe even a hint of horror.
I’m torn on if I want a sequel. It ends wonderfully and neatly, with a great small opening to continue.
I rarely reread books, but this is one I would. I may even have to get a physical copy. The weaving of Addie’s story is one of the best I’ve read this year.
