Batman: Broken City by Brian Azzarello

3.0

Batman: Broken City starts out like the perfect crime noir novel. It has slaying of a pregnant woman, flashbacks to murder of Batman's parents, and a bunch of his criminal foes all set against the backbrop of the dark and stormy Gotham City.

The first half of this book was quite good --maybe a little heavy on the narrative by inner dialogue and the unnecessary inclusion of a few characters, but quite good.

The real problem with this book is that it reaches it's conclusion at the half way point. The second half of Broken City drags out the solved murder as if it were unsolved and concludes with yet another ending and a final rehashing of Batman's beginnings.
